A Dhaka court has placed Amir Hossain Amu, a member of the Awami League Advisory Council and former minister, on a six-day remand in connection with the murder of businessman Abdul Wadud in the New Market area of the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza issued the remand order on Thursday.
Earlier, the investigation officer of the case had requested a 10-day remand for a fair investigation.
The defence lawyer filed a bail petition, requesting the cancellation of the remand, while the state opposed it. After the hearing, the court granted a six-day remand.
The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday arrested Amir Hossain Amu from Dhanmondi, Dhaka.
Additional Police Commissioner (Detective Branch) Rezaul Karim Mallik confirmed the arrest.
According to the case statement, businessman Abdul Wadud was shot dead by police on the afternoon of July 19 in Nilkhet, located in the New Market police station area, during an anti-discrimination student protest.
Following this incident, his brother-in-law Abdur Rahman filed a murder case against 130 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former minister Obaidul Quader.
