Garment workers have torched an army vehicle and a police transport van in the Kachukhet area of Mirpur-14 in the capital.
The incident took place on Thursday (October 31) morning, said Shah Mohammad Faisal, officer-in-charge of Bhashantek Police Station.
In the morning, workers of Diana Garments took to the Kachukhet road and started protesting for various demands, including arrears. The police and army tried to pacify the workers after they tried to block the road.
When the police charged betons in self-defence, the agitating workers vandalised the vehicles and set them on fire.
The area became a battlefield. At that time, two workers, including a woman, were shot. At one stage, more members of the army arrived and dispersed the workers.
The injured have been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Two units of fire service arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control.
