Tensions escalated for the second consecutive day at Dhaka University as clashes erupted between leaders and activists of Chhatra League and quota agitating students, turning Chankharpul Road near Shahidullah Hall into a battlefield. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported thus far.
The clash unfolded around 4:30 pm on Tuesday, with both factions hurling bricks and engaging in a chase. Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah Hall of the university became a focal point for DU students, while external Chhatra League members positioned themselves near Chankharpool. Intermittent brickbat throwing and chasing continued amidst the presence of rods, hockey sticks, and other makeshift weapons.
Earlier in the day, starting from noon, leaders and activists from various metropolitan areas, police stations, upazilas, and colleges in Dhaka gathered near the Raju sculpture on buses. Native weapons such as rods, stamps, sticks, and pipes were visible in their hands.
The gathering reportedly included leaders and activists from Tejgaon Thana Chhatra League, Savar Upazila Chhatra League, Kabi Nazrul Government College Chhatra League, and Bangla College Chhatra League, among others.
As tensions persist, the situation at Dhaka University remains volatile, with continued clashes and heightened security measures in place to manage the unrest.
