Police have chased demonstrators who have been rallying in Shahbagh, demanding the age limit be set to 35 years to enter government jobs.
The rally began in front of the museum on Wednesday (October 30) morning.
It was heading to the Press Club from Shahbagh around 2pm but was intercepted by police near the High Court's Majar gate. The participants then ran towards Doel Chattar and dispersed.
The participants have warned of more stringent programs during the rally if their demands are not met.
Meanwhile, the government has approved a proposal to extend the age limit for entering public sector jobs to 32, which the job seekers declined to accept.
The Cabinet Division issued a handout in this regard on October 24.
It says that the draft of the ‘Maximum Age Limit Fixation Ordinance, 2024’ for direct recruitment in government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, statutory government authorities, public non-financial corporations, and self-governing bodies has been approved in principle and final.
In the case of autonomous, semi-autonomous organisations, the respective recruitment rules will be applicable subject to necessary adaptation.
In the light of the ordinance, the Ministry of Public Administration will restructure the Bangladesh Civil Service (Age, Qualification, and Examination for Direct Recruitment) Rules, 2014, and add such rules that a candidate can appear a maximum of three times in the Bangladesh Civil Service examination.
