Muslims from Dhaka and other districts are gathering at the Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital to attend the grand Islamic conference.
The programme is scheduled for 9am to 1pm. People have been gathering in the venue since Tuesday (November 5) morning.
Qawmi madrasa-based scholars urged the people to join the conference.
Biswa Ijtema has been held in two phases for the two groups of Tabligh since 2019. The followers of Maulana Saad Kandhalvi perform Ijtema in the second phase. This time, they demand being allotted the first first phase. The Qawmi madrasa-based scholars called for this conference opposing the demand.
Muaz Bin Nur, a representative of Maulana Saad’s followers, said, “We have made only one demand. We don’t want any more discrimination. We want to hold Ijtema in the first phase and bring Maulana Saad to the country at any cost.”
Earlier, Shaikhul Hadith Allama Ubaidullah Farooq of Jamia Madania Baridhara Madrasa said, "The followers of Maulana Saad are planning to bring him to Ijtema in the first phase to create chaos. Keeping these issues in mind, I call upon everyone to attend the grand Islamic conference.”
The 58th edition of Biswa Ijtema, the second largest gathering of Muslims, will take place in two phases next year on the bank of the Turag river in Tongi. However, it has yet to be decided who would hold Ijtema in the first phase.
