‘The nation wants to get relief from the cruel reality of fire’
Opposition Leader and Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader MP said on Tuesday said that the whole country is at risk of fire as the entire firefighting system has collapsed.
The evidence shows that current firefighting capabilities are woefully inadequate, said GM Quader.
“Every year, hundreds of people are killed in terrible fires. The whole country is in danger of fire.”
GM Quader said these things in a statement sent to the media on Tuesday.
He said that the nation wants to get relief from the cruel reality of fire. According to the information provided by the fire service, last year 27,524 fire incidents caused a loss of over Tk792.36crore. Besides, 102 people died in the fire incidents and 281 people were injured.
However, common people's perception is that this number is much higher.
The statement mentioned that on March 4, a sugar mill caught fire in the Karnaphuli police station area of Chittagong. Firefighters felt helpless there. On February 29, 46 people died in a fire at Green Cozy Cottage on Bailey Road in the capital. Besides, some injured people under treatment as critical condition.
