A Dhaka court has placed former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun on a four-day remand in a case filed over the murder of businessman Abdul Wadud, who was killed in police firing in the capital's New Market area.
The court also placed ward councillor Hasibur Rahman on a five-day remand in the same case.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubul Haque granted the remand period on Sunday morning.
Earlier, the investigation officer of the case and Sub-Inspector Raihan Uddin of New Market police station produced the accused before the court and sought a 10-day remand.
The defence lawyer filed a petition seeking cancellation of the remand and the state opposed it.
After hearing both sides, the court granted a four-day remand of the ex-IGP and a five-day remand of Rahman.
On July 19, businessman Abdul Wadud was killed in police firing in the Nilkhet area under the New Market police station during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
His brother-in-law Abdur Rahman filed a murder case against 130 people, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader.
