Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal briefs the media after visiting destroyed properties in Rangpur during the nationwide unreast on Thursday, July 25, 2024.

The miscreants may have used gunpowder instead of petrol to set fire to different establishments during the nationwide unrest, said Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

He said that the Rangpur district was not spared from the mayhem that took place in Bangladesh from July 16 to July 19. “Rather it (destruction) was more than many districts.”

The home minister made the comments after inspecting the destroyed properties in Rangpur on Thursday.

Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and other relevant officials were with the home minister during the visits.

Asaduzzaman said an anti-liberation circle, with the help of the BNP, is trying to destroy the country. They have been involved in the anti-quota movement and carried out the attacks.

“Two journalists were martyred in the movement. A female journalist was sexually assaulted. Many journalists have been injured. I thank you and express my gratitude to you for still risking your life to work for the news,” he said.

Regarding the curfew, the minister said the members of the Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh, and Bangladesh Police are working together to provide security to the people. The overall situation is gradually improving.
