The UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) will support Bangladesh as it navigates its changing situation, says UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk.

He told this to the media at the Public Administration Ministry on Wednesday (October 30).

Türk had a meeting with the Foreign Affairs Adviser Touhid Hossain about Bangladesh’s human rights challenges.

He also discussed opening a UN Human Rights office in Dhaka.

Türk is scheduled to meet Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief of Army Staff General Waker-Uz-Zaman and Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed today.

The UN Human Rights chief came to Dhaka on a two-day visit. He was received at the airport by Toufique Hasan, Director General and Spokesperson of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, on Monday night.

Earlier, a press release from the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh said that Türk will hold a number of meetings with senior officials and civil society representatives during his visit.

He will also hold meetings with different UN agencies and members of diplomatic missions in Bangladesh.
