Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Bangladesh Army have conducted a joint drive at the Purbachal 300ft area to address illegal parking, unlicensed drivers and unfit vehicles.
About 60 army personnel from Uttara Army Camp and 12 DMP members conducted this drive on Thursday (October 31) night.
The drive included all vehicles, regardless of whether they belonged to the police, media, VIPs, or expensive brands. Cars carrying fake media logos were also fined.
The reckless speed of cars and bikes on 300ft road is becoming increasingly dangerous, especially at night, as people rush from various parts of the city to experience the highway's beauty.
Commuters expressed concerns about reckless driving and speeding by bikers on the road. They asked for regular enforcement raids to address these issues.
“The drive aims to warn those travelling without valid licenses or vehicle fitness certificates,” said Major Ashiq.
The army says that it will continue drives to prevent further loss of life on the highway. The main goal of the campaign was to raise awareness, not to issue fines.
