Time Digital Report:Two local journalists have received death threats from a union parishad chairman and an alleged land grabber in Patuakhali in separate incidents for publishing reports over allegations raised against them.
The victims are Rafiqul Islam Saddam Hossain, the district's Mirzaganj upazila correspondent of Daily Jugantar, and Saiful Islam, Dumki upazila correspondent of the same newspaper, reports our Patuakhali correspondent.
Rafiqul filed a written complaint against Madhavakhali Union Parishad Chairman Kazi Mizanur Rahman Lovelu, also the local Awami League unit president, and his companions with Mirzaganj Police Station in this regard yesterday.
Md Anwar Hossain, officer-charge of the police station, confirmed the matter.
According to the complaint, reports over allegations of irregularities against the UP chairman were published in the daily on February 26, March 12, and 19.
On March 21, the chairman and his brother Kazi Moshiur Rahman Bablu along with 10-15 others abused journalist Rafiqul and threatened to kill him.
In Dumki upazila, journalist Saiful Islam filed a general diary with Dumki Police Station against Masud Al Mamun Babu, an alleged land grabber, on March 19 over the death threat.
According to the GD, Mamun issued a death threat to the journalist near the upazila land office on March 19 after a report was published in the Bangla daily over Mamun's alleged involvement in land grabbing.
Confirming the GD, Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of Dumki police station, said legal steps will be taken in this regard after the investigation.
