Anamul's 184 sees Prime Bank reach 388

Anamul Haque Bijoy hit a blistering 184 -- the third-highest individual score in Bangladesh's List A cricket -- to propel his side Prime Bank to a strong total of 388 runs against Shinepukur Cricket Club at BKSP's ground 4 in a Dhaka Premier League match today.

Anamul would perhaps be ruing the fact that he missed an opportunity to score a double hundred since he departed in the 41st over of the innings with plenty of balls remaining. His 142-ball 184, laced with 18 fours and eight sixes became the third-highest score in Bangladesh's List A cricket. If he had achieved the double ton, he would have been the second batter after Soumya Sarkar to achieve the feat. Soumya hit an unbeaten 208 while playing for Abahani Limited in a match against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi back in 2019 before the ODI World Cup in England. Mohammad Raqibul Hasan's 190 in a losing cause for Mohammedan Sporting against Abahani in 2017, still remains the second-highest knock in Bangladesh's List A.

Prime Bank eventually ended five runs short of the highest team score in Bangladesh's List A too. Abahani's 393 for four against Prime Doleshwar in 2018 still remained the score to beat.

Anamul looked close to breaking all those records. He dominated the spinners, with the in-form Hasan Murad going for 73 in 9 overs. Nayeem Hasan went for 35 in his four overs and Anamul was on course for a huge personal score as he pushed Nayeem's fourth delivery of the 20th over to reach his ton.

In the end, a full and straight delivery from pacer Asaduzzaman Payel rapped Anamul's pads and the umpire saw no reason not to give not out. Opener Shahadat Dipu, who struck a run-a-ball 47 during a 162 opening stand with Anamul and late cameos from Mohammad Mithun (38 off 26) and Nasir Hossain (61 off 32) saw Prime Bank reach 388 for 5. Shinepukur were 168 for four in 35 overs at the time of this report being filed.
