Ban on catching Hilsa fish to end at midnight

Time Digital Report: The ban on catching Hilsa Fish will be lifted at midnight today (Saturday) after two months.

The fisheries department said due to the two-month ban, it will be possible to collect the desired target of 6 lakh tonnes of Hilsa fish this time.

However, many fishermen said they are not interested in going to the river with nets now due to Eid.

Babul Majhi, a fishermam in Kajirhat area of Daulatkhan upazila of Bhola, said, "There are no fish in the river at present. And I will also enjoy the Eid with my children. I'm not going to the river this week."

Another fisherman, Rokon Sardar, also said that the ban will be over tonight but he is not going for fishing now.

Habib Majhi of Bhola Sadar said one trip costs them Tk 1-1.5 lakh, but if they do not get the desired fish, they have to count the losses.

As a result, very few fishermen will go to the river after ban expires, he said.

Barisal District Fisheries Officer Bimal Chandra Das said that the hilsa harvesting will start from the early hours of Sunday. This time, less number of fishermen will enter the river due to the Eid-il-Fitr.
