BBC appoints S Sriram new T20i coach

Time News Desk: The Bangladesh Cricket Board is likely to appoint a new T20 international coach for the forthcoming ICC T20 World Cup in Australia to overcome their woes in the shortest format of the game where they have been failing repeatedly.

Seeking anonymity one of the BCB high-ups confirmed on Friday that the board is set to appoint a new T20 coach who will be working with the Tigers, focusing on power hitting, and his assignment might start with the upcoming Asia Cup starting on August 27 in Dubai.

He further added that they already had a session with Indian-born Australian coach Sridharan Sriram to appoint him ahead of the approaching marquee tournament in October.

'Although Sridharan isn’t confirmed yet, we are in talks with him in this connection. Let’s see,’ said the board high-up.

Following the relentless fiasco in the T20Is where Bangladesh could manage only two victories in their last 15 games, BCB was desperately looking for a pathway to overcoming the misery.

In this regard, BCB has called up a meeting with the coaching staff on Saturday at a city hotel where they are expected to finalise a new coach for the T20Is.

Several sources of the board also said that Tigers batting consultant Jamie Siddons is also in the race to become the T20I coach.

The discussion of a fresh coach for the Twenty20 internationals took place after BCB president Nazmul Hasan hinted on Thursday in this respect, although he didn’t reveal any names.

Considering the newly announced hectic Future Tours Plan from 2023-2027 where the Tigers will play 150 games BCB boss also stressed on the split coaching that would give some breathing space for the coaching staff.

‘We are working on that regarding the matter mentioned. You will know about it in a day or two because of the number of games we have. We also need an adequate coaching staff,’ said Nazmul on Thursday during his visit to the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Thursday.

‘It is not only the cricketers. Think about the coaching staff. Nobody will have the time to breathe. We have the highest number of matches in the next FTP 150 matches. That is unbelievable and it suggests that the ICC and other countries are giving us the importance and so they want to play with us,’ he added.
