Bridges Minister calls on to refrain collecting extra fare during Eid

Road, Trasport and Bridges Minister and Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader urged transport owners and workers to refrain from charging more than the refixed fare from the passengers on the upcoming Eid.

He made the call at a press briefing held at his office in the Secretariat on Tuesday (March 26)

Obaidul Quader said that Eid-ul-Fitr is to be held very shortly and all the necessary preparations have already been made to make the Eid journey smooth following the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Mentioning that the roads and highways of the country are much better than at any time in the past, the Minister said that necessary instructions have been given at the field level as well to be more alert so that there is no misery for the roads. At this time, he sought the sincere cooperation of all stakeholders, including transport owners and workers, transport maintaining order on the road.

Obaidul Quader said that the task force comprising of various law enforcement agencies would be effective in maintaining the law and order in the metropolitan terminals and for the convenience of the passengers.

The Minister called upon all concerned including the Highway Police, District Police, District Administration, Ansar and Upazila Administration to play their due role in keeping the traffic flow normal at congested intersections including exit and entry points of the metropolitan areas.

The minister also urged the leaders of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to give a step-by-step leave to the garment factories to avoid extra congestion on the roads and highways during Eid.
