Time Digital Report: Rejecting the budget for the current fiscal year 2022-23, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka City South marched out demonstrations and rallies in the capital led by Manjurul Islam Bhuiyan, a member of the Central Working Committee and Naeb Ameer of Dhaka Metropolitan South. The procession started from Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital on Thursday afternoon and ended with a short rally.
The Central Majlis Shura member and Dhaka city South assistant secretary Advocate Dr Helal Uddin and Delwar Hossain, Dhaka City Assistant Secretary Kamal Hossain and Dr Abdul Mannan respectively, Dhaka Metropolitan South working council members Engineer Sheikh Al Amin, Abdus Salam, Sheikh Sharif Uddin Ahmed, Mubarak Hossain, President of Islami Chhatrashibir Dhaka city East Abul Khair, Secretary of Dhaka City South Touhidul Islam and other Thana Ameers, Secretaries, and leaders of different levels of Dhaka City South were present at the demonstration.
Manjurul Islam Bhuiyan said at the protest rally that people's hopes and aspirations have not been reflected in the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 as the finance minister failed to adopt necessary plans and measures to protect people’s lives and livelihoods.
"We can simply say this budget could not reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people of Bangladesh, rather they have been deceived. The finance minister has given the businessmen with both hands, but the common people have got nothing," he added.
Manjurul Islam Bhuiyan said the country's marginal, lower middle class, and middle-class people have been neglected in the budget. This budget is a very ambitious and deficit budget. This year, the budget focuses on inflation, job creation, agriculture, health care, human resources, and education, but in reality, it has nothing to do with reality. As a result of this budget, the cost of living for the people and the prices of daily necessities will increase further. The people have hatefully rejected this fraud budget.
We think that the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 has completely failed to adopt the plans to ensure people's lives and livelihoods during the pandemic, he added.
The Jamaat leader alleged that the current government does not feel it necessary to make the common people and day laborers happy since it has no accountability to them.
"There is no direction in the proposed budget to protect people from the Corona crisis. The finance minister has made the title of this year's budget 'Bangladesh towards a Resilient Future Protecting Lives and Livelihoods. It sounds good, but there's no specific proposal in the budget for cash support to save the livelihoods of the poor and day-laborers," he told.
He further said that the main driving force of the economy of Bangladesh is agriculture but the agriculture sector has not been given due importance in the proposed budget. There was no talk of reducing the cost of production materials, including chemical fertilizers. The role of workers in the economic development of Bangladesh is undeniable. No allocation was mentioned in the budget for the protection of the health of the workers. The allocation for disaster management is also insufficient. There is no direction for remittance fighters.
The medical system of the country is very fragile. Hospitals do not have adequate medical supplies. People are dying due to a lack of treatment. Even in this situation, there was not enough allocation for the health sector.
Terming the budget as debt dependable Manjurul Islam Bhuiyan said it is nothing but compromise with the corrupt which will further encourage corruption
