Dhaka-Kolkata bus service resumes after 2 years

News Desk: Bus services between Bangladesh and India resumed today (June 10, 2022) after over two years of suspension due to the pandemic.

Indian High Commission in Bangladesh issued a statement today in this regard.

"Bus services between India and Bangladesh via ICP Agartala-Akhaura and ICP Haridaspur-Benapole resumed with Dhaka-Kolkata-Dhaka bus being flagged off from Dhaka early morning today," said the statement.

The bus services are a major step forward in enhancing affordable, people-centric connectivity between the two countries, added the statement.

The development came after railway services between the two neighbouring countries resumed on May 29.

Both the bus and train services were suspended in March 2020, when the deadly coronavirus hit Bangladesh.

Before suspension of the services, buses were operated on five cross-border routes -Dhaka-Kolkata-Dhaka, Dhaka-Agartala-Dhaka, Dhaka-Sylhet-Shillong-Guwahati-Dhaka, Agartala-Dhaka-Kolkata-Agartala, and Dhaka-Khulna-Kolkata-Dhaka.

Discussion over resumption of bus services came to the fore after both countries decided to resume the train services.
