News Desk: Schoolteacher Hriday Mondal was released from jail on bail on Sunday in a case filed over ‘hurting religious sentiments’.
Hriday walked out of Munshigganj jail at around 4:50pm, said Jailer Abul Bashar of the district jail.
Earlier, Munshiganj District and Sessions Judge Motaharat Akter Bhuiyan granted the bail on a bond of Tk 5,000 in the case.
Hriday Mondal’s bail petition was denied twice on March 23 and 28 in the same case. On March 20, Hriday, an assistant teacher of Binodpur Ram Kumar High School in Munshiganj, was having a conversation with students about the distinction between science and religion. The student spread the conversation's recoding over social media platforms.
Later, a group of students filed a written complaint with the head teacher, alleging that Hriday made ‘derogatory comments on Islam’. On March 22, some students staged a demonstration. Later, police also detained Hriday Mondal.
The school’s office assistant, Md Asad Miah, filed a case with the local police station on charges of hurting religious sentiments.
