Time Digital Report: The polls to the executive committee of the Jahangirnagar University Teachers’ Association will be held on January 25.

The voting will be held from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the university club without any break, chief election commissioner professor Aniruddha Kahali said.

He also added that about 700 teachers were likely to cast their votes in the election to elect a one-year term executive body.

Professor Farid Ahmed of the physics department and professor M Shamim Kaiser of the Institute of Information Technology will contest for the president and general secretary posts on the Awami League-backed panel.

Professor Shohel Rana of the pharmacy department and professor Aminur Rahman Khan of the mathematics department will contest for the president and general secretary posts on the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-backed panel.

This year, the pro-BNP teachers of Jahangirnagar University are participating in the election under a uniform banner, merging the two factions of the Nationalist Teachers’ Forum.

The president of one faction of the NTF professor Shamsul Alam said, ‘We have decided to participate in the polls jointly, in line with the BNP’s strategy of being united in any of our moves.’

The last election to the association took place on December 29 in 2021.
