Khaleda Zia returns home from hospital

News Desk: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia returned home today (June 24, 2022) from Evercare Hospital in the capital as infection rate of Covid-19 is on the rise.

Khaleda's physicians said the former premier is still ill and her treatment will be continued at her house.

"She (Khaleda) is ill but her condition is stable. Bleeding complication is very challenging right now. As Covid-19 situation is getting worse, we don't want to keep her there," Prof Shahabuddin Talukdar, chief of the Khaleda's medical board, told journalists at the hospital's auditorium.

He said if she (Khaleda) gets Covid-19 infection then her condition will be critical. "So, the medical board has decided to take her home and continue treatment there."

Prof Talukdar also said if any further complications arise then she will be admitted in the hospital again.

The BNP chairperson was admitted to the hospital on June 11 midnight where doctors placed a stent inside her main artery after she suffered a mild heart attack.

Khaleda (76) has been suffering from various health-related complications including arthritis, diabetes, as well as dental and eye problems.

The former prime minister was sent to jail on February 8, 2018 in a corruption case. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, she was given temporary release on March 25 last year on certain conditions. The term of her release has been extended four times so far.
