Mahmudullah scored highest 80 not as Bangladesh posted 290-9 in their 50 overs in the second one-day international of three-match series against Zimbabwe in Harare on Sunday.
Skipper Tamim Iqbal also hit a fifty, 50 off 45 balls, and put 71-run in the opening stand to give Bangladesh a solid foundation after they asked to bat first.
However, after the departure of Tamim, who hit 10 fours and a six, Bangladesh’s top and middle-order batsmen failed to raise the tempo, which slowed down their progress.
Opening the innings for injured Liton Das, Anamul Haque made 20 off 25 balls before he was run out.
One-down Najmul Hossain added 38 and Mushfiqur Rahim chipped in with 25.
When Afif Hossain joined Mahmudullah in the 30th over of the innings, Bangladesh were facing a threat to restricted to mediocrity.
Afif added 81-run with Mahmudullah for the fifth wicket and made run a ball 41 to bring the innings back on track.
Sikandar Raza picked up highest 3-56 for Zimbabwe.
Bangladesh must win the contest to stay alive in the series after suffering a shock five-wicket loss in the opening match on Friday.
