Time News Desk: A man was captured on Saturday at Zakiganj upazila in Sylhet on a charge of spreading a video clip containing abusive comments against prime minister on a social web portal.
The arrested Abdul Wahid, 26, son of Ijjadur Rahman of Gandadatta village under the Zakiganj municipality, is also vice-president of the municipality town’s Ward 4 unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, the police said.
Zakiganj police officer-in-charge Md Mosharraf Hossain confirmed the news of the arrest.
He said that Abdul Wahid recorded a video footage several days ago making arrogant and abusive comments against prime minister Sheikh Hasina for hiking the prices of fuel oils.
Abdul Wahid uploaded the video on his account of a social web portal and it went viral, the police officer said.
He said that the upazila unit president of the ruling Awami League-affiliated student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League, Delwar Hossain, filed a case under the Digital Security Act with the police against Abdul Wahid.
‘Abdul Wahid was arrested in a frontier area of Zakiganj in the afternoon,’ the OC said, adding that the arrested would be produced before a court on Sunday seeking its order against him.
