Momen requested India for Hasina's power

Time News Desk: Foreign minister AK Abdul Momen on Thursday said that he will urge the Indian government to back prime minister Sheikh Hasina so that she could stay in power.

He made the remarks while addressing a Janmashtami programme organised by Sree Sree Janmastami Udjapan Parishad Bangladesh at JM Sen Hall in Chattogram on Thursday afternoon.

‘I requested the Indian government to do whatever (they) needed to keep Hasina in power,’ the minister said.

He said that he made the request during his visit to India.

He said that the Sheikh Hasina government was needed for ensuring religious harmony in Bangladesh.

However, a group of Hindu people protested at the foreign minister AK Abdul Momem's visit to Chattogram following his speech regarding religious minority issues.

The group led by advocate Rana Dasgupta, general secretary of Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, took position at Cheragi hills and held a protest rally.

Rana Dasgupta at the protest rally demanded apology from the foreign minister for his comments on religious minorities.
