Rise in Covid cases: Modi to hold meeting to assess preparedness

Time News Desk:Amid a recent rise in Covid-19 cases, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a high-level meeting today to review the Covid-19 situation and assess public health preparedness, officials said.

India has recorded 1,134 new coronavirus cases in 24 hours since Tuesday.

The active cases increased to 7,026, according to the Health Ministry data updated today, reports New Delhi correspondent reports.

With five more Covid deaths, the toll climbed to 5,30,813. The daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.09 percent while the weekly positivity rate stands at 0.98 percent.

While there has been a significant decline in the number of Covid-19 cases across India in the past few months, a fresh surge has been witnessed in certain parts of the country.

Concerned by the uptick in fresh Covid cases, Indian Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan had last week sent a letter to governments of six states which are "reporting higher numbers of cases indicating the possible localized spread of infection."

The letter was sent to Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka states.

Bhushan stressed the need to monitor emerging clusters of new Covid-19 cases, influenza-like illnesses and severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) cases in all health facilities.
