Time Digital News: Rajshahi University authorities on Thursday expelled a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of the ruling Awami League, temporarily on a charge of assaulting a teacher physically on Sunday.
An office order signed by deputy registrar (academic) AHM Aslam Hossain stated that Abu Sinha, a student of Institute of Business Administration, was expelled temporarily for assaulting veterinary and animal sciences department professor Moizur Rahman physically.
‘The final decision in this regard will be taken following the findings of the investigation’, it read.
Earlier, RU IBA unit BCL president Abu Sinha assaulted professor Moizur Rahman when the latter went to resolve a dispute over an interdepartmental football match held between the Institute of Business Administration, and veterinary and animal sciences department in Habibur Rahman Hall playground on Sunday.
The students of both departments were locked into a clash centring the game.
Video footage shows that Sinha was pulling Moizur Rahman by the T-shirt collar while the RU IBA unit BCL joint secretary Saikat Raihan was seen running towards the teacher with a stick in his hand.
Professor Moizur Rahman submitted a written complaint to the university vice-chancellor professor Golam Shabbir Sattar in which he stated that he was assaulted physically by the IBA students.
Following the incident, veterinary and animal sciences department students staged demonstrations on the university campus boycotting classes and examinations and pressed a three-point demand, including cancelling the studentship of the accused BCL leader.
