Time Digital Report: Five men, including an Awami Swechchhasebak League leader, were sued today for firing indiscriminately at a group of people and injuring two in the capital's Gulshan area yesterday.
They are Abdul Wahid Mintu, a vice-president of Dhaka North city unit of Swechchhasebak League, and his associates Arif Hossain and Monir Ahmed, and two others Shariful and Humayun.
"Aminul Islam, a victim, filed the case against five people under sections 307, 323, 326, 406 and 420 of the Penal Code," Shakir Hasan, a sub-inspector of Gulshan Police Station, told.
Abdur Rahim, a rickshaw-van driver, and Aminul Islam, a professional driver, were hit in their legs yesterday afternoon after Mintu haphazardly fired multiple shots with his licenced pistol near the Gulshan Shopping Plaza following a dispute over an MFS (Mobile Financial Services) transaction.
The injured were rushed to the United Hospital.
Police arrested Mintu, and his associates Arif and Monir hours after incident and also recovered a pistol, 16 bullets, three empty bullet shells, and four magazines.
Mintu is a contractor by profession, said police sources.
Acording to police, Arif went to Alfa General Store, near the Gulshan Shopping Plaza, around 4:00pm, and asked the shopkeeper to transfer Tk 75,000 to an MFS account.
After sending the money, the shopkeeper, Habibur Rahman, asked for the cash but Arif said he did not have it.
Later, Habibur called nearby shop owners and detained Arif, and in response, Arif called his associates.
Getting the call, Arif's associates Kabir, Mintu, and Monir arrived at the spot and tried to free him during which a hassle broke out.
As Arif and his associates tried to flee the scene, the shopkeepers tried to chase them down.
At that time, Mintu fired multiple shots, two of which hit Rahim and Aminul.
