Worldwide Covid-19 cases past 617m

Time Digital News: The overall number of global Covid cases has now crossed 617 million.

According to the latest global data, the total case count mounted to 617,573,821while the death toll reached 6,531,909 on Tuesday morning.

The United States has recorded 97,554,555 cases so far and 1,078,938 people have died from the virus in the country, both highest counts around the world.

According to India’s federal health ministry data released on Monday morning, 1,681 new cases of Covid-19 were reported in 24 hours, taking the total tally to 44,535,869 in the country.

The country also logged 18 related deaths in 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 528,355, the ministry said.

Bangladesh reported another death from Covid-19 with 601 more cases in 24 hours till Monday morning.

With the new numbers, the country’s total fatalities rose to 29,340 and the caseload rose to 2,018,215, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.

The daily case test positivity rate declined to 11.60 per cent from Sunday’s 12.72 percent as 5,179 samples were tested.

The mortality rate remained unchanged at 1.45 per cent while the recovery rate declined to 97.16 per cent.
