A Dhaka court has placed former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun on a four-day remand in a case filed over the killing of Md Ismmul Haque in the capital's Chankharpul area during the uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Saifuzzaman passed the order on Tuesday morning.

Police produced him before the court around 8am.

Later, Shahbagh police station Sub-Inspector Mainul Islam Khan Pulak, also the investigation officer of the case, sought a 10-day remand in the case.

After the hearing, the court granted a four-day remand.

According to the case statement, Ismmul Haque took part in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on August 5.

At that time, orders were given by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun and others to open fire to suppress the movement.

The victim was shot at the scene. Later, he was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

The victim's elder brother Mohibul Haque filed the case with the Shahbagh police station against five people, including Hasina.
