Students from seven affiliated colleges have blocked the Science Lab intersection, demanding the establishment of an independent university.
This protest has halted traffic, causing significant disruption for commuters, many of whom are now walking to their destinations.
The blockade began around 11am on Wednesday.
The protest has paralyzed traffic throughout New Market, Nilkhet, Science Lab, and nearby areas. Major routes, including those from Nilkhet to Science Lab, Shahbagh to Science Lab, Dhanmondi, and Mohammadpur towards Science Lab, are experiencing severe congestion.
Additionally, gridlock has spread to surrounding areas such as Banglamotor, Karwan Bazar, Panthapath, and Farmgate.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that students are staging protests at four separate locations in Dhaka, each with distinct demands.
In front of City College, students have gathered to demand the reinstatement of their principal. Students from Kabi Nazrul Government College have held a protest march calling for the reinstatement of Deputy Principal Professor Saleh Ahmed Fakir.
Separately, job seekers are demonstrating in front of Shikkha Bhaban, calling for an increase in the age limit for government jobs to 35 years.
