The government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against corruption to create a good governance-based administrative framework for the socio-economic development of the country by curbing and preventing corruption.

Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali spoke about the zero-tolerance policy while presenting the budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year in parliament on Thursday.

He said in his budget speech: “By digitizing various sectors, the government is tirelessly working to prevent corruption and alleviate public suffering. To take effective measures against corruption, the activities of the Anti-Corruption Commission are being fully automated.”

“For this purpose, a Digital Archive, Digital Forensic Lab, and Investigation and Prosecution Management System (IPMS) have been launched. Additionally, to raise public awareness for the prevention of corruption, ‘Anti-Corruption Committees’ have been formed in every metropolis town, district, and upazila with the respectable individuals from the locality,” he added.

The minister further said: “To ensure the prevention of corruption in government and semi-government offices and to empower the public in receiving services, ‘Public Hearing’ sessions are being conducted. To establish the practice of honesty among the future generations, 6,638 ‘Shatata Stores’ without seller have been established in various schools and madrasas. Furthermore, to enhance integrity, ethics, and values among the student community, 25,542 ‘Integrity Clubs’ have been formed so far.”

Anti-corruption meetings, seminars, human chains, rallies, street plays, and debate competitions are being organized to increase public participation in preventing corruption, he added.

Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali presented the proposed budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year amounting to Tk797,000 crore (Tk7.97 trillion) in parliament on Thursday.

This was his first budget unveiling and the first budget after the reelection of the Awami League government in January.
