Fire at Dhaka Shishu Hospital

A fire has broken out at the cardiac ICU of Dhaka Shishu Hospital.
The blaze was reported around 1.47pm on Friday (April 19), said the duty officer of the Fire Service control room, Lima Khanom.
Five firefighting units are working at the site to contain the fire.
The cause of the fire and extent of damage could not be ascertained yet.
The patients were reportedly evacuated after the fire broke out.

Recently, Bangladesh saw an alarming rise in fire accidents.
Forty-six people were killed after a deadly fire ravaged a building on Bailey Road on February 29.
On March 4, another massive fire engulfed the S Alam sugar mill warehouse in Chattogram, which was contained after 67 hours.
Additionally, another fire was reported on April 3 at a private jute mill in Khulna’s Rupsha. On April 5, a fire broke out at a plastic goods warehouse in Rajshahi’s Bagha.
According to the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, 102 people were killed and 281 sustained burn injuries in 27,624 fire incidents across the country in 2023.
Among the deceased, 73 were men and 29 were women.
