Concern about transforming Buet into breeding ground for apolitical militancy
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that the investigation is ongoing into the Buet incident.
He said this in an exchange meeting with Awami League leaders of the Chittagong Division at the Dhaka district Awami League office in Tejgaon of the capital Sunday morning.
He said: “We are actively looking into the matter. We are particularly concerned about any attempts to transform Buet into a breeding ground for apolitical militancy under the guise of curbing student politics, and we are investigating to prevent such developments. If any evidence of this nature surface, the government will take appropriate action.”
The minister reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring fair and smooth upcoming Upazila Parishad elections.
He emphasized that the administration should refrain from interference, and MP ministers should avoid exerting influence to ensure impartiality in the elections.
Quader stressed that abuse of power and authority will not be tolerated, and voters should have the freedom to choose without coercion. He expressed confidence in the Election Commission's independence and its ability to address any irregularities.
Quader also mentioned that the Upazila elections would be conducted in four phases, urging responsible behaviour from all involved parties.
He cautioned against remarks from officials that could undermine the party's integrity, emphasizing the importance of adhering to party rules and regulations.
Quader also addressed market prices, acknowledging some fluctuations but expressing optimism in overcoming economic challenges under Sheikh Hasina's leadership.
Regarding the formation of the Chittagong city Awami League committee, Quader emphasized the importance of conducting the process through a conference rather than announcing it via a press release from Dhaka.
