At least 10 students were injured in a clash between students of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute and Bangladesh University of Textiles (Butex) on Sunday night, prompting the authorities to deploy additional forces to bring the situation under control.
Tejgaon industrial police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Gazi Shamimur Rahman said several injuries had been reported, and efforts were underway to get the situation under control.
However, the OC could not provide information about the cause of the conflict.
The clash reportedly began between students of Shaheed Aziz Hall at Butex and Latif Hall at Dhaka Polytechnic Institute at around 9:30pm.
It later spread to students from other halls. Over two hours of repeated skirmishes left at least 10 injured.
Shafin, a student of Butex’s GMAG Osmani Hall, said the conflict had started with an argument between students from Shaheed Aziz Hall and Latif Hall, which had eventually escalated into a clash.
He added that several students from both sides had been injured and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by rickshaw for treatment.
