The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will recruit 1,300 taxi and motorcycle drivers from Bangladesh in 2024.
Out of these, 1,000 will be motorcycle drivers and 300 will be taxi drivers, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Shofiqur Rahman Choudhury said after a meeting with UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdullah Ali Al Hamoudi at the ministry on Thursday.
In subsequent years, the plan is to recruit 2,000 annually.
The minister said a government-owned company in the UAE will recruit 2,000 motorcycle and taxi drivers from Bangladesh each year. This recruitment process has already begun, with 1,300 workers to be sent in 2024.
He added that during their visit to the UAE, they met with 40 companies, including a notable meeting with Dubai Taxi Company, which has expressed interest in recruiting workers.
UAE Ambassador Abdullah Ali Al Hamoudi said 1,300 taxi and motorcycle drivers will be hired. These workers will be paid according to UAE labour laws.
When asked how long this recruitment process will continue, the ambassador said it depends on the demand and supply in the labour market.
