India has returned the body of 15-year-old Jayanta Kumar Singh, a schoolboy killed by Border Security Force (BSF) firing at the Kantivita border in Baliadangi upazila of Thakurgaon, after 48 hours.
Indian police handed over Jayanta's body to Bangladeshi authorities around 1am on Wednesday.
The body was then handed over to his uncle, Babul Chandra Singh, in the presence of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and BSF personnel.
Jayanta was reportedly shot dead by BSF forces in Dingapara while attempting to cross into India near Main Pillar 393 of the Dhantala BGB border late Monday night.
Thakurgaon Baliadangi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Firoz Kabir confirmed the handover: "The Indian police handed over the body to us in the presence of BGB and BSF at around 1am at Dhantala BOP of Thakurgaon Battalion 50 BGB. We then handed the body over to his family."
This incident comes just days after 13-year-old Swarna Rani Das was also killed by BSF firing on September 1 in Juri upazila of Moulvibazar.
Letters of protest have been sent to the Indian Embassy regarding both incidents.
