Chinese ambassador requests PM to offer specific proposal

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sought Beijing’s cooperation for Bangladesh's southern region's development when Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen called on her at her official residence Ganabhaban on Wednesday.

"Direct road communication has already been established with the country's southern region through the Padma Bridge. I want China to help Bangladesh for further development of the southern region," PM's Speech Writer Md Nazrul Islam quoted her as saying in a media briefing after the meeting.

Sheikh Hasina told the Chinese ambassador that the southern region of the country had been neglected for so long as except the Awami League, no government had taken effective steps for the development of the area.

Turning to cooperation, the Chinese ambassador requested the prime minister to offer a specific proposal.

Yao Wen also extended an invitation to Sheikh Hasina to visit China in July.
