Two current MP's forfeit security deposit in Bogra

Candidate who fails to obtain 12.5% of the votes will lose his security deposit


Two current members of parliament from Bogra forfeited their security deposits after failing to secure one-eighth of the total votes cast in their respective constituencies in the 12th national election.

Bogra District Senior Election Officer Mahmud Hasan provided this information on Monday.

Nurul Islam Talukdar, JaPa candidate and incumbent member of parliament, got 10,523 votes and lost his security deposit in Bogra-3 constituency.

Khan Muhammad Saifullah Al Mehedi, an independent candidate, won the seat with 69,750 votes.

In the Bogra-7 constituency, independent candidate and incumbent MP Rezaul Karim Bablu received 2,007 votes and also lost his security deposit.

Awami League candidate Md Mostofa Alam won the seat with 91,029 votes.

According to the Representation of the People Order (RPO), the security deposit of any candidate who fails to obtain one-eighth or 12.5% of the votes cast in a given seat is forfeit.

The Election Commission had received Tk20,000 as a security deposit from each aspirant vying for their respective electoral constituencies for representation in the House.
