BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has declared that a "mass awakening" has begun in Bangladesh and that the anti-discrimination movement is nearing victory. He made this statement after meeting with the family of Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, an imprisoned member of the party's standing committee, at his Banani residence on Saturday afternoon.

Addressing the latest status of the movement, Mirza Fakhrul stated, "A mass awakening has started in the country now. Common people have joined the movement against student quota discrimination. Not only students now, but parents, doctors, lawyers, artists, cultural workers, journalists, and people from all professions have joined this movement, ignoring all fears. The biggest aspect of this movement is that people have woken up against injustice."

Expressing optimism about the movement's progress, he said, "I think that this movement has reached the threshold of its victory. I believe that the victory of the people must be won, the victory of the students must be won."

Mirza Fakhrul emphasized the BNP's support for the student movement from its inception, stating, "From the first day, when the students started the movement, we talked about the rationale, not only cooperating with them, but also declaring solidarity with them. We will continue to fulfill our responsibilities as a political party and appeal to all leaders and workers across the country to fully cooperate with this logical movement of the students."

Highlighting the role of the youth in the movement, he remarked, "The youth should wake up. Those young people have woken up now. It is impossible for anyone to defeat the movement when the youth wake up."

Mirza Fakhrul also condemned the government's actions, describing it as a "monstrous fascist government" responsible for killing hundreds of students and burying them in mass graves. "From what I saw in the newspaper, 59 people were given mass graves. It is also defeating the Pakistani invasion force. Can not think!" he exclaimed.

Earlier in the day, Mirza Fakhrul visited Banani DOHS to check on his ailing wife, Kanta Islam, at the house of Nazrul Islam Khan, another member of the party's jailed standing committee. His son Anik Khan and wife Rabeya Akhtar Rakhi Khan were present during the visit. He later met with Tahera Khosru, wife of Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, in Banani, where his son Israfil Khosru was also present.

It is notable that Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury were arrested from their homes by law enforcement officers on July 21. During the meetings with the families of the two leaders, BNP Secretary General was accompanied by Shayrul Kabir Khan, a member of the party's media cell.

The statements and visits by Mirza Fakhrul underscore the BNP's commitment to the anti-discrimination movement and highlight the widespread support it has garnered across different segments of society.
