Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader asserted that the Prime Minister's speech is being misrepresented. He made these remarks during a press conference at the Awami League president's political office in Dhanmondi on Tuesday, July 16.
Quader stated that there are various conspiracies both domestically and internationally aimed at toppling the elected government. "The speech given by the Prime Minister is being distorted. Attempts are being made to change the court's ruling by force, driven by certain vested interests," he said.
He criticized the BNP for not participating in elections and failing in their movements. "We saw earlier in 2018, they wanted to gain from the movement relying on road agitation. They engaged in arson, causing numerous deaths and targeting innocent people," Quader added.
Regarding the ongoing quota reform movement, Quader claimed that it is being manipulated by political forces. "The leader of this movement is an escaped convict residing in London, whose party has publicly endorsed it. Tariq Rahman is using various evil forces to turn this movement into a political one, similar to those in 2015, 2016, and 2018. Some like-minded groups are also involved," he stated.
Quader also defended the Chhatra League, suggesting that they are being unfairly blamed for the violence. "It has become fashionable to blame the Chhatra League. However, 500 people were injured in this attack, including 20 central leaders, and two were shot," he noted.
He further mentioned Tariq Rahman's past, highlighting his move to London under the pretense of not engaging in politics anymore. "Later, the FBI testified against him in a money laundering case. Tariq Rahman, who was convicted, did not participate in the election fearing his party would lose. The movement has repeatedly failed," Quader concluded.
The press conference underscored the Awami League's stance on the current political unrest and the perceived manipulation of the quota reform movement.
