Mobile phone used for answering questions recovered
The question papers for recruitment examinations of assistant teachers in government primary schools were solved in Jagannath Hall of Dhaka University (DU) to supply answers to examination centres through mobile phones.
Detective Branch (DB) chief Mohammad Harun-Or-Rashid revealed the information at a press briefing at the DB office on Minto Road in the capital on Thursday.
Earlier, the Cyber and Special Crime (south) Division of DB arrested two members question paper leak gang and three examinees for their involvement in leaking question papers of third-phase exams.
The arrested gang members are Jyotirmoy Gain and Sujan Chandra Roy, 25, students of Dhaka University while the candidates are Manish Gain, 39, Lovely Mondal, 30 and Pankaj Gain, 30.
The mobile phone used for answering questions was recovered from thier possession.
"The third phase of the written examination for the recruitment of assistant teachers of government primary schools was held on March 29. A total of 350,000 candidates of 21 districts of Dhaka and Chittagong division participated in the exams. Seven students were detained in Madaripur and one student in Rajbari along with their answer sheets and digital devices during the examination. Two separate cases were filed in two districts in this incident,” said the DB chief.
The examinee who was detained in Rajbari gave confessional statement before the court under section 164.
In the deposition, he informed about getting the solution of the question paper.
Most of the candidates arrested in Madaripur got out on bail.
Following a request of Madaripur District Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Masud Alam, DB's Cyber and Special Crime (South) Division started investigating the incident.
Later, Dhaka University law students Jyotirmoy Gain and Sujan Chandra were arrested.
Harun said that seven students including Jyotirmoy and Sujan used to solve the questions staying at DU hall and sent the answers to the examinees. Jyotirmoy's uncle Asim Gain used them to solve question in an exchange of Tk12,000-15,000.
Asim used to contact the candidates two to three months before the exam. Specially those candidates who were nearing the end of their job age limit, were targeted.
He used to contract for Tk12,00,000-14,00,000 to make them pass the exam successfully. He used to send the answer sheets to the candidates a few minutes before the exam began.
In response to a question, Harun said that it has been initially proved in the investigation that Asim Gain, hailing from Rajoir upazila in Madaripur, is the main criminal of the gang. He leaked the question papers of various exams in the past. Asim has human trafficking, hundi business and dish business.
A drive is underway to arrest him, said the DB chief.
"The arrested students have been remanded and interrogated. They gave a confessional statement under section 164 in the court. Investigation is going further,” he added further.
