China congratulates Saima Wazed on WHO election win

Her name will be submitted for appointment by WHO executive board
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has congratulated Saima Wazed for winning the election for the post of the next WHO regional director for Southeast Asia.
This was "another contribution made by Bangladesh to safeguarding health of the entire humanity," he said while handing over anti-dengue kits to the health ministry on Tuesday.
"Her nomination also opens new channels and scopes for enhancing cooperation between China and Bangladesh in health sector," the ambassador said.
Saima Wazed, global mental health expert and daughter of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, won the election among the eleven member states of the region.
Her name will now be submitted for appointment by the 154th session of the WHO executive board, which will take place on January 22–27, 2024, in Geneva, Switzerland.
After that, she will take office on February 1 for a five-year term and be eligible for reappointment once.
With that, Saima Wazed will be the first Bangladeshi to hold the post created in 1948 as part of WHO's regional divisions.
