Quader: People have more comfortable life than ever before

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said as the government ensured the security of life and property, people are living more comfortably than ever before.

He said this in a statement signed by Awami League Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua on Thursday.

Quader, who is also the road transport and bridges minister,condemned and protested the statement of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir published in the media.

He said: “Talking about the security of people's life and property in the mouth of secretary general of the party, which is the patron of terrorism and extremism, is nothing but gibberish.

“Those who indiscriminately killed opposition political activists in the horrific grenade attack on August 21, who sponsored the serial bombings across the country on August 17, 2005, who imported 10 trucks of weapons, who did arson attacks and burned hundreds of innocent people to death, people get more scared when they talk about public safety,” he added.

They have no faith in the country's democracy and elections. Military dictator Ziaur Rahman seized power unconstitutionally and illegally, and established BNP in army camp. Since its inception, BNP has been playing politics by blocking the democratic rights of the people. So BNP leader’s talk of democracy and good governance is inconsistent, Quader said.

The minister said: “Allegations of arbitrary arrests and harassment by law enforcement agencies are baseless. It is the responsibility and duty of law enforcers to bring terrorists to justice.”
