Schools were expected to close on Saturdays after Eid-ul-Azha, but no official decision has been made yet.
Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury announced on Thursday that a final decision regarding Saturday closures will be made after Eid-ul-Azha.
He said: “We will determine whether to keep educational institutions open or closed on Saturdays after Eid. Currently, schools are still open on Saturdays. We aim to maintain the previous closure schedule. We have already reviewed the academic calendar.”
He made these remarks during a tree planting and cleanliness program organized by Dhaka Metropolitan South Chhatra League at Bakshi Bazar in the capital, aimed at creating green, clean, and smart campuses.
The minister also mentioned that several educational institutions have been designated as HSC examination centres.
"About 400 institutions have affiliated schools that might need to remain open. While some institutions are closed due to examinations, we can arrange special provisions to keep them open. Additionally, schools in the Sylhet region that were closed due to flooding will also be kept open under special arrangements," he added.
Previously, during an April 21 meeting chaired by the education minister, it was decided that schools should remain open on Saturdays until double-shift schools are converted to single shifts. The meeting noted that there are 464 double-shift schools in the country.
