The High Court on Monday rejected the writ petitions of two Awami League nominees filed to regain candidacy in the 12th general election, effectively upholding the Election Commission’s decision to cancel their candidature owing to having dual citizenship.

The two are Shammi Ahmed for Barisal-4 and Shamim Haque for Faridpur-3.

The High Court bench comprising Justice Md Iqbal Kabir and Justice SM Maniruzzaman passed the order.

Earlier on December 15, the Election Commission revoked the candidacies of the two ruling party nominees in an appeal hearing.
