Plaintiff filed case after failing to get motorcycle
A Dhaka court ordered the filing of charges against Mohammad Rassel, the former CEO of the e-commerce company Evaly, and chairman Shamima Nasrin, in a case of cheque fraud.
Dhaka's Sixth Joint Metropolitan Sessions Judge Humayun Kabir's court gave this order on Thursday. At the same time, the court ordered the issuance of an arrest warrant against the accused.
Plaintiff's lawyer Md Mia Hossain confirmed the matter.
He said the day was fixed for filing the charges in the court on Thursday. However, as the accused were not present, the court framed charges against them and ordered the issuance of arrest warrants.
According to the case statement, it was alleged that Tofazzal Hossain, a customer of Evaly, on February 26, 2021, paid Tk1.49 lakh to the company for buying a motorbike after seeing an advertisement. However, the company failed to supply the motorcycle within the stipulated 45 days.
On June 28 that year, Evaly gave a cheque of Tk2.5 lakh to the customer but it was dishonoured as there were not sufficient funds in the account with City Bank.
The customer then sent a legal notice through his lawyer asking the couple to return the money they took for supplying a motorbike.
However, the couple failed to return the money in time and the customer filed a case with the court in 2022.
