Voting in the presidential election has ended in most of the US states with Republican Donald Trump bagging 230 electoral votes against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris' 187, according to AP.

Voting took place in 50 states from morning till night local time on Tuesday (November 5). Due to the difference in time zones, elections in the states are held at different times. Indiana and Kentucky were the first states to close the polls.

The candidate that wins 270 electoral votes or more becomes the president. A total of 538 electoral votes are allocated within 50 states and Washington DC.

The seven swing states — Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada and North Carolina — have a total of 93 electoral votes. Winning in at least four of these seven swing states is vital to win the presidential election.
