They say the promises of the movement have not been fulfilled

Thirteen coordinators and four co-coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement’s Jahangirnagar University unit have quit.

They announced their resignation at a media briefing on Thursday (October 5) at the university’s TSC.

The coordinators are Abdur Rashid Jitu, Rudra Muhammad Safiullah, Haseeb Zaman, Zahidul Islam Iman, Zahidul Islam, Fahmida Faiza, Rokaia Jannat Jhalak, Mishu Khatun, Rafid Hasan Rajan, Hasanur Rahman Sumon, Abdul Hai Swapan, Nasim Al Tariq and Aindrila Majumdar. Among them, Abdur Rashid Jitu also served as the central coordinator.

The co-coordinators who resigned are Zia Uddin Ayan, Tanjim Ahmed, Zahidul Islam Bappi and Saidul Islam.

In a prepared statement, Jitu said the quota reform movement, which started under the banner of the anti-discrimination student movement, turned into an anti-fascist movement based on nine points.

An interim government was formed after the fall of fascism. However, the anti-discrimination student movement is silent on the demands of banning party-based student politics included in the nine points, trial of those involved in the July killings and compensation for the injured and victims.

He said that the student movement is playing the role of a ruling party student front. Besides, it has failed to include the activists of all levels of Bangladesh under the same banner and to ensure the representation of various universities.

He called for abolishing the banner.
