Law enforcement dispersed miscreants
During the second day of the BNP-Jamaat's blockade in Bogra, unidentified individuals doused a goods truck in petrol and set it ablaze in the Baghopara area of Sadar upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
Additionally, a covered van was vandalized in the Tinmatha area of the highway in the morning.
The perpetrators detonated four to five cocktails. Law enforcement dispersed the miscreants by firing at least 10 rounds of tear gas shells in the vicinity.
The targeted cargo truck, loaded with shipwreck goods from Chittagong destined for Matidali in Bogra, fell victim to the attack.
Around 12:30pm, masked assailants forced the truck to stop, poured petrol on it, and ignited the fire before fleeing the scene.
Police intervened, managing to control the blaze with sand and water.
Subsequently, a unit from the Fire Service and Civil Defence arrived to extinguish the fire. The goods, en route from Chittagong, were ultimately destroyed in the flames.
Gobindganj highway police station Officer-in-Charge Aminul Islam said that miscreants poured petrol on a truck loaded with iron products in the Baghopara area of Bogra Sadar around 12:30pm, causing damages estimated at least Tk10 lakh. He also disclosed that the miscreants had stopped an AJR Courier Service Limited covered van around 2:30pm on Tuesday, pouring petrol on it and setting it ablaze.
Afsar Uddin, the zonal manager of the organization, confirmed the destruction of goods in the van and said that a case would be filed at Sadar police station regarding the incident.
Moreover, Swechasebak Dal leaders and activists assembled at the Tinmatha rail gate area on Wednesday morning. During their protest, they vandalized a covered van. Law enforcement had to intervene, firing at least 10 tear gas shells to restore order. Four cocktails were thrown during the confrontation.
The situation grew tense, leading to the dispersal of the miscreants by law enforcement.
Additionally, BNP activists organized a procession at Sadar's Biman intersection. The police took action by firing several tear gas shells and dispersing the protesters to ensure public safety. Despite the blockade called by BNP-Jamaat activists, a covered van belonging to SR Parcel Service, owned by former Member of Parliament Golam Mohammad Siraj, was observed traveling on the highway.
