Rohingya teen detained while trying to make Bangladeshi passport

Comes to passport office with a birth registration certificate


Detective Branch of Police has detained a Rohingya teenage boy from Comilla Regional Passport office when he was trying to make a Bangladeshi passport using fake name and address.

Rajes Barua, officer-in-charge of DB police, confirmed the matter on Thursday.  

The boy came to make his passport at the regional passport office in Noapara, Comilla on Thursday afternoon. He tried to get his passport with a birth registration certificate as the son of Zakir Hossain and Hasina Begum of Paschim Ghorashal Ward No 4 of Muradnagar Upazila.

Over suspicion, the officials of the office asked his address and he could not reply properly. Following this, the passport officials informed the police. A team of police went there and interrogated him.

In the interrogation, the boy said his name is Yasir and came to Cox's Bazar from Bali Bazar area in Myanmar 20 days ago. The young man is the son of Syed Hossain of Bolibazar area.

Later, the boy was brought to the police station.

In addition to taking legal action at the Kotwali Model police station, the police are investigating how this Rohingya boy got the birth certificate.
