Adviser: Need to scrutinize details of ACC seeking info on 38 diplomats

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has requested information on 38 Bangladeshi embassy officials across 10 countries, including Malaysia, Switzerland, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, and Foreign Adviser Mohammad Touhid Hossain has suggested there may be some misunderstandings regarding the request.
During a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, Touhid said: “I believe there may be room for misunderstanding, but I will not confirm anything until I review each case in detail.”
He emphasized that confusion might exist and assured that it would be addressed.
Touhid illustrated this with an example involving the purchase of a car during his tenure at the Kolkata mission.
He noted that a larger vehicle was bought at a higher price compared to a smaller vehicle purchased in Delhi for a lower cost.
He explained that advance payments were made to an agent—who was a company representative, not a middleman as presumed.
Hossain clarified that objections related to this transaction are considered audit issues rather than corruption.
He said: "We need to distinguish between audit objections and actual corruption. We will review the issues thoroughly to clarify any misconceptions."
